No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked Palermo (10-6) crushed on the road 12th ranked Ancona (3-13) 71-25 on Saturday. The game without a history. Palermo led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Ancona to just 2 points in third quarter and to 6 points in second half. Palermo held Ancona to an opponent 16.0 percent shooting from the field compared to 46.6 percent accuracy of the winners. Palermo forced 26 Ancona turnovers and outrebounded them 45-24 including a 37-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Quite impressive performance for power forward Elena Riccardi (187-82) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds. Lithuanian Julita Bungaite (187-87, college: Hawaii, agency: Promotex) contributed with 10 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Guard Carola Sordi (181-82) replied with 13 points and forward Francesca De Chellis (183-98) added 2 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Ancona. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Newly promoted Palermo maintains fourth position in A2 with 10-6 record. Ancona at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the twelfth place with 13 games lost. Palermo will face Castellammare (#6) in Stabia in the next round. Ancona will play on the road against the league's leader La Spezia (#1) and hope to win that game.
