Regular Season Round 14: SEQ - Canberra 115-75

Bottom-ranked Canberra Capitals (0-19) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 115-75 loss to sixth ranked SEQ (10-8) in Crestmead on Saturday evening. The hosts trailed by 11 points after first quarter, but they stormed back and won the game by 40 points. SEQ outrebounded Canberra Capitals 44-18 including a 16-1 advantage in offensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 51.7 percentage. The best player for the winners was guard Lauren Mansfield (170-89, college: Iowa St.) who scored 33 points (!!!) and 8 assists. The former international Rachel Jarry (185-91) chipped in 31 points and 7 rebounds. Five SEQ players scored in double figures. The former international center Abby Bishop (189-88) produced 23 points and 7 rebounds and American point guard Renee Montgomery (170-86, college: Connecticut, agency: LBM Management) added 16 points respectively for the guests. Newly promoted SEQ maintains sixth position with 10-8 record. Loser Canberra Capitals still closes the standings. SEQ will face higher ranked Sydney Uni Flames (#5) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Canberra Capitals will play against Adelaide Lightning (#8) and look forward to get finally their first victory.
