Regular Season Round 15: AEK Athens - Lavrio 90-82

Very expected game when 11th ranked Lavrio (5-10) was defeated on the road by third ranked AEK Athens (11-4) 90-82 on Saturday. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 26-16. But Lavrio won second period 20-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. AEK Athens made 31-of-38 free shots (81.6 percent) during the game, while Lavrio only scored fifteen points from the stripe. They outrebounded Lavrio 38-27 including 29 on the defensive glass. Lavrio was plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for American point guard D.J. Cooper (183-90, college: Ohio) who led his team to a victory scoring 20 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. The former international center Dimitrios Mavroeidis (208-85, agency: Octagon Europe) helped adding 21 points and 9 rebounds. The best for the losing side was American guard Brandon Young (193-91, college: De Paul) with 26 points and the other American import guard Demarius Bolds (193-84, college: Missouri Western) scored 14 points and 4 steals. Four Lavrio players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. AEK Athens maintains third place with 11-4 record having just three points less than leader Olympiacos. Newly promoted Lavrio keeps the eleventh position with ten games lost. AEK Athens will face Aiolos Trikallon (#8) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Lavrio will play against Nea Kifisia and hope to win that game.
