No shocking result in a game when fifth ranked Antwerp Giants (8-6) beat at home bottom-ranked Leuven Bears (2-11) 100-90 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 7 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 2-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 100-90. Antwerp Giants made 22-of-25 free shots (88.0 percent) during the game. They shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 52.2 percentage. It was an exceptional evening for American guard Kwame Vaughn (190-90, college: CS Fullerton) who led the winners and scored 23 points, 5 assists and 4 steals. His fellow American import guard Mike Smith (198-87, college: E.Tenn.St.) accounted for 16 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side. Antwerp Giants' coach used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. American forward J.J. Avila (201-91, college: Colorado St., agency: Pro Partner Sports Management) came up with 20 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Thomas De Thaey (203-91, college: N.Carolina St.) added 21 points and 10 rebounds respectively for Leuven Bears in the defeat. Four Antwerp Giants and five Leuven Bears players scored in double figures. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Antwerp Giants. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Aalstar and Limburg United. Loser Leuven Bears stay at the bottom position with 11 games lost. Antwerp Giants will meet Limburg United (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Leuven Bears will play against the league's second-placed Spirou Charleroi (#2) and hope to secure a win.
