Regular Season Round 19: Jurmala - Barons Riga 98-91

Rather expected game when 9th ranked Barons Riga (5-14) was defeated on the road by sixth ranked Jurmala (10-9) 98-91 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 8 points after first quarter, but they rallied back winning two of next three quarters and won the game by 7 points. Jurmala shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 52.2 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. It was a great evening for Ivars Rihards Zvigurs (198-95) who led his team to a victory scoring 22 points and 7 rebounds. Power forward Maris Ziedins (203-90) helped adding 21 points and 5 assists. At the losing side swingman Salvis Metra (195-84) responded with 20 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists and power forward Roberts Freimanis (201-91, college: Liepaja-2) scored 21 points and 5 rebounds. Five Jurmala and four Barons Riga players scored in double figures. The victory was the third consecutive win for Jurmala. They moved-up to fifth place. Loser Barons Riga keeps the ninth position with 14 games lost. Jurmala will meet at home Jelgava (#7) in the next round. Barons Riga will play against Valmiera and hope to secure a win.
