Regular Season Round 18: Valsesia - Piombino 89-97

Rather expected game when 8th ranked Valsesia (10-8) lost at home to sixth ranked Piombino (12-6) 97-89 on Sunday. Piombino made 25-of-33 free shots (75.8 percent) during the game. Valsesia was plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for point guard Mattia Venucci (185-90) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!), 11 rebounds and 7 assists. Swingman Salvatore Genovese (198-87, agency: Interperformances) contributed with 20 points for the winners. The former international forward Walter Santarossa (200-78) replied with 20 points and 7 rebounds and point guard Francesco Paolin (189-95) added 15 points in the effort for Valsesia. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Valsesia's coach Lorenzo Pansa rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Piombino moved-up to fourth place in B, which they share with Crema. Loser Valsesia dropped to the seventh position with eight games lost. Piombino will face league's leader Forli at home in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Valsesia will play against Santarcangelo (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
