Regular Season Round 14: Toros - Gigantes 76-92
Date: January 24, 2016
Bottom-ranked Gigantes managed to get a third victory, breaking the three-game losing streak on Sunday night. This time they won against ninth-ranked Toros in Maracay 92-76. It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 16-point difference suggests that Gigantes is in a good shape to leave the bottom place. The guests trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 2-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 92-76. Gigantes made 27-of-33 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game, while Toros only scored eight points from the stripe. American guard Brandon Johnson (183-86, college: San Diego, agency: Haylett Sports) notched 16 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort and the other American import guard Keyron Sheard (188-86, college: Chattanooga, agency: Haylett Sports) supported him with 17 points and 5 assists. Four Gigantes players scored in double figures. Even 24 points and 5 rebounds by the former international swingman Rafael Perez (193-82, agency: Paris Global Sports) did not help to save the game for Toros. American point guard Andre Barrett (180-82, college: Seton Hall) added 10 points and 6 assists for the hosts. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Gigantes maintains tenth position with 3-9 record. Loser Toros keep the ninth place with seven games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
