Regular Season Round 17: Azkoitia - CREF Hola 49-78

Bottom-ranked Azkoitia is still unable to win any game. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their 17th consecutive match to tenth ranked CREF Hola (7-10) 78-49. The game without a history. CREF Hola led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Azkoitia's 32. CREF Hola forced 26 Azkoitia turnovers and outrebounded them 50-29 including a 18-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. American center Shakeya Leary (189-90, college: Syracuse) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 21 rebounds for the winners and her fellow American import forward Lyndra Weaver (185-87, college: Virginia) chipped in 18 points and 11 rebounds. Five CREF Hola players scored in double figures. Russian power forward Mariya Davydova (190-93, college: FIU) responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals and Serbian swingman Marina Markovic (185-91) scored 7 points and 9 rebounds. Azkoitia's coach Joseba Guesalaga gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. CREF Hola moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Gipuzkoa UPV. Azkoitia lost their seventeenth game in a row. Azkoitia at the other side, also newcomer in the league, still closes the standings. CREF Hola will play against Gran Canaria (#13) in Las Palmas in the next round. Azkoitia will play on the road against Cadi La Seu in Seu D'urgell and hopes to get finally their first victory.
