Top ranked Hapoel Jerusalem (13-4) recorded its fourth loss at the home court on Sunday night. Hosts were defeated by third ranked Maccabi Haifa (11-6) 82-72. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Hapoel Jerusalem. The game was mostly controlled by Maccabi Haifa. Hapoel Jerusalem managed to win third quarter 16-10. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Maccabi Haifa won last quarter 22-13. They also forced 21 Hapoel Jerusalem turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was Venezuelan point guard Gregory Vargas (180-86, agency: Pro Sports) who scored 11 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. Naturalized Danish guard Chanan Colman (191-84, college: Chipola JC) chipped in 19 points and 5 assists. American-Bulgarian point guard Earl Rowland (188-83, college: St.Mary's, CA) produced 16 points and 7 rebounds and American Tony Gaffney (204-84, college: Massachusetts, agency: Inception Sports) added 17 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Four Hapoel Jerusalem players scored in double figures. Maccabi Haifa have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain third place with 11-6 record having just two points less than leader Hapoel J-M. Defending champion Hapoel Jerusalem still keeps top position with four games lost. Maccabi Haifa are looking forward to face Hapoel Holon (#11) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Hapoel Jerusalem will play against Ironi Nahariya (#5) and is hoping to win this game.
