Regular Season Round 17: Wildcats - Taipans 84-74
Date: January 25, 2016
No shocking result in a game when first ranked Perth Wildcats (16-9) won against at home 6th ranked Cairns Taipans (11-14) 84-74 on Monday. The game was mostly controlled by Perth Wildcats. Cairns Taipans was better in second period 20-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Perth Wildcats looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The former international power forward Matthew Knight (204-85, college: Loyola Mary) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 11 rebounds for the winners and American guard Jermaine Beal (191-87, college: Vanderbilt) chipped in 15 points and 6 assists. International guard Cameron Gliddon (196-89, college: Concordia Irvine) responded with 16 points and 7 rebounds and American point guard Markel Starks (188-91, college: Georgetown) scored 15 points. Perth Wildcats have a solid series of three victories in a row. Despite that victory Perth Wildcats went down to second position due to points difference. Loser Cairns Taipans keep the sixth place with 14 games lost. Perth Wildcats will face bottom-ranked Kings (#8) in Sydney in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Cairns Taipans will play on the road against New Zealand Breakers in Auckland and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
