There was a minor upset when 7th ranked Maccabi Ashdod (8-9) was defeated on the road by ninth ranked Hapoel Tel-Aviv (8-10) 89-73. The game was mostly controlled by Hapoel Tel-Aviv. Maccabi Ashdod was better in third quarter 23-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Hapoel Tel-Aviv won last quarter 25-11. The former international Raviv Limonad (191-84) nailed 17 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists for the winning side and American guard Chester Simmons (196-82, college: Washington) accounted for 15 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Naturalized American Willy Workman (198-90, college: Amherst) came up with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and American point guard Diante Garrett (196-88, college: Iowa St.) added 12 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists respectively for Maccabi Ashdod in the defeat. Five Hapoel Tel-Aviv and four Maccabi Ashdod players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Hapoel Tel-Aviv maintains ninth place with 8-10 record. Maccabi Ashdod at the other side keeps the seventh position with nine games lost. Hapoel Tel-Aviv's next round opponent will be bottom-ranked Maccabi K/G (#12) in Kiryat Gat.
