Regular Season Round 7: Villa Clara - Capitalinos 76-71

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Santa Clara. First ranked Villa Clara faced their biggest opponent Capitalinos. Host Villa Clara (5-3) defeated guests from La Habana (6-2) 76-71. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. Villa Clara forced 26 Capitalinos turnovers. Strangely Capitalinos outrebounded Villa Clara 34-17 including 23 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international swingman Andy Boffil (190-82) who helped to win the game recording 29 points and 8 steals. Guard Neslier Abreu (187-93) contributed with 19 points and 5 steals for the winners. Guard Daniel Simon (185-96) answered with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 13 rebounds and Freddy Marin added 8 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Capitalinos. Capitalinos' coach Rainel Panfet tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Despite that victory Villa Clara went down to second position due to points difference, which they share with Ciego de Avila and Camaguey. Defending champion Capitalinos still keep top place with two games lost. Villa Clara will again play against league's leader Capitalinos in La Habana in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Capitalinos will have a break next round.
