Regular Season Round 17: Al Wakrah - Al Sadd 79-80

Fifth-ranked Al Wakrah (6-9) used its home court advantage to challenge second ranked Al Sadd (14-1) on Wednesday. The visitors from Doha managed to secure only one-point victory 80-79. However their fans expected easier game. The guests trailed by 6 points after three quarters before their 19-12 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Al Sadd looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American-Italian point guard Anthony Raffa (185-89, college: Co.Carolina) saved the victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 assists. International swingman Khalid Abdi (198-87) contributed with 22 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. The former international point guard Boney Watson (183-78, college: Sam Houston St.) answered with 20 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists and Emir Mujkic added 15 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Al Wakrah. Four Al Sadd and five Al Wakrah players scored in double figures. Al Sadd have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader. Al Wakrah at the other side keeps the fifth place with nine games lost. They share the position with Al Khor. Al Sadd's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Doha to the arena Al Jaysh.
