The game in Rio was also quite interesting. Sixth ranked Guantanamo (3-4) played at the court of 7th ranked Pinar (2-6). Guantanamo managed to secure a 6-point victory 74-68 on Wednesday. Guantanamo forced 19 Pinar turnovers. The winners were led by swingman Elvis Pons (194-83) who scored that evening 16 points and 9 rebounds and guard Raudelis Guerra (191-93) supported him with 18 points and 5 rebounds. Four Guantanamo players scored in double figures. Even 21 points and 8 rebounds by forward Yanderlei Suarez (193-91) did not help to save the game for Pinar. The former international point guard Yosiel Monterrey (185-88) added 14 points and 10 steals for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Guantanamo moved-up to fifth place. Pinar lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the bottom position with six games lost. Guantanamo will meet higher ranked Ciego (#3) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Pinar will play against Santiago (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
