Regular Season Round 19: Rio Claro - Flamengo 73-91

NBB top team - Flamengo (16-3) had no problems winning another game. This time they beat tenth ranked Rio Claro (7-12) 91-73. It looked good early as Rio Claro took a 3-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Flamengo had a 27-11 second period charge getting the lead and Rio Claro was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 73-91. Flamengo made 24-of-30 charity shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Rio Claro was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a quality performance for the former international Marquinhos Vieira (207-84) who led the winners and scored 19 points and 5 rebounds (made all of his eight free throws). The former international power forward Joao Paulo Batista (205-81, college: Gonzaga) accounted for 15 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winning side. Five Flamengo players scored in double figures. The former international Guilherme Teichmann (206-83, college: Tulsa) came up with a double-double by scoring 11 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and center Daniel Castellar (203-83) added 15 points respectively for Rio Claro in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Flamengo have an impressive series of ten victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 16-3 record. Rio Claro at the other side dropped to the eleventh position with 12 games lost. Flamengo will play against Liga Sorocaba (#13) in Sorocabana in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Rio Claro will play at home against Sao Jose/Vinac and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
