Regular Season Round 9: Pinar del Rio - Santiago 95-93

A very close game took place in Rio between Pinar and Santiago. Eighth ranked Pinar (3-6) got a very close home victory over 7th ranked Santiago (2-6). Pinar managed to escape with a 2-point win 95-93 in the game for the seventh place. Pinar made 19-of-23 free shots (82.6 percent) during the game. They also forced 24 Santiago turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Santiago's players. The best player for the winners was Dariel Sotero (-88) who had a double-double by scoring 23 points, 11 assists and 6 steals. The former international point guard Yosiel Monterrey (185-88) chipped in 20 points, 9 assists and 6 steals. Five Pinar players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was Eddy Hechevarria (193-86) who recorded 23 points and 6 rebounds and international forward Esteban Martinez (192-87) added 25 points and 5 rebounds respectively. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Pinar moved-up to seventh place. Santiago lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the bottom position with six games lost. Pinar will again meet at home bottom-ranked Santiago (#8) in the next round. Santiago will have a break next round.
