Regular Season Round 16: Moron - Cambados 79-84

We should mention about the upset which took place in Morón de la Frontera, where 9th ranked Moron (8-8) lost at home to twelfth ranked Cambados (6-10) 79-84. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 26-16. But Moron won second period 18-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. 26 personal fouls committed by Moron helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The winners were led by Cape Verdean-Portuguese forward Joel Almeida (195-85, college: Brockport St.) who scored that evening 24 points and 5 rebounds and Austrian forward Maximilian Hopfgartner (206-92, college: John Brown) supported him with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Even 19 points by American forward Mike Phillips (201-91, college: Howard) did not help to save the game for Moron. Guard Alejandro Marin (190-88) added 15 points for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Cambados moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Clinicas Rincon and Zornotza. Newly promoted Moron dropped to the seventh position with eight games lost. Cambados' next round opponent will be higher ranked Sammic ISB (#3) in Azpeitia and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
