Regular Season Round 18: Fuenlabrada - Gipuzkoa 94-82

There was no surprise when 18th ranked Gipuzkoa (3-15) lost to sixth ranked Baloncesto Fuenlabrada (10-8) in Madrid 82-94. It looked good early as Gipuzkoa took a 4-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Baloncesto Fuenlabrada had a 25-20 second period charge getting the lead and Gipuzkoa was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 82-94. Baloncesto Fuenlabrada made 19-of-23 charity shots (82.6 percent) during the game. Gipuzkoa was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. Belgian-Congolese point guard Jonathan Tabu (189-85) scored 16 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Croatian point guard Marko Popovic (185-82, college: S.Idaho JC, agency: Alti Sport) chipped in 21 points and 5 assists (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) during the contest. The best for the losing side was American forward Marcus Landry (201-85, college: Wisconsin) with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds and his fellow American import forward Travis Wear (208-90, college: UCLA) scored 12 points and 9 rebounds. Four Baloncesto Fuenlabrada and five Gipuzkoa players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Baloncesto Fuenlabrada have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain sixth position with 10-8 record. Gipuzkoa lost third consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with 15 games lost. They share the position with Estudiantes. Baloncesto Fuenlabrada will play against Sevilla (#16) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Gipuzkoa will play against Blusens Monbus and hopes to get back on the winning track.
