Regular Season Round 10: Pinar del Rio - Santiago 82-80

A very close game took place in Rio between Pinar and Santiago. Seventh ranked Pinar (4-6) got a very close home victory over 8th ranked Santiago (2-7). Pinar managed to escape with a 2-point win 82-80 on Saturday evening. Pinar forced 28 Santiago turnovers. The former international point guard Yosiel Monterrey (185-88) scored 23 points and 5 steals to lead the charge for the winners and Dariel Sotero (-88) chipped in 19 points and 8 steals during the contest. Four Pinar players scored in double figures. At the losing side Eddy Hechevarria (193-86) responded with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 10 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) and international forward Esteban Martinez (192-87) scored 33 points (!!!). Pinar moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Artemisa. Santiago lost fourth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with seven games lost. Pinar will meet higher ranked Villa Clara (#3) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Santiago will play against the league's leader Capitalinos (#1) in La Habana and hope to secure a win.
