Regular Season Round 16: Rapla - Valga 99-93

There was no surprise when 6th ranked Valga (6-10) was defeated on the road by third ranked Rapla (10-5) 99-93. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 26-19. But Valga won second period 24-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Rapla shot the lights out from three nailing 16 long-distance shots on high 57.1 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. 24 personal fouls committed by Valga helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The winners were led by American guard Devin Brooks (186-92, college: Creighton) who scored that evening 27 points and 9 assists and swingman Sven Kaldre (197-91) supported him with 19 points and 6 assists. Even 20 points and 7 rebounds by Latvian guard Kristaps Kanbergs (190-88) did not help to save the game for Valga. Latvian forward Martins Berkis (198-85) added 22 points for lost side. Five Rapla and four Valga players scored in double figures. Rapla maintains third position with 10-5 record having just three points less than leader TU/Rock. Valga at the other side dropped to the seventh place with ten games lost. Rapla's next round opponent will be league's second-placed Kalev/Cramo in Tallinn and it will be for sure the game of the week. Valga will play on the road against Parnu (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
