Regular Season Round 18: Maccabi T-A - Maccabi Rishon 100-94

An interesting game for Maccabi T-A (13-5) which hosted in Tel-Aviv 4th ranked Maccabi Rishon (10-8). Second ranked Maccabi T-A managed to get a 6-point victory 100-94. The hosts trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 34-18 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Maccabi T-A made 20-of-21 free shots (95.2 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. International point guard Gal Mekel (190-88, college: Wichita St., agency: Beo Basket) notched a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 assists (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!) to lead the effort and American-Nigerian Ike Ofoegbu (205-84, college: SMU) supported him with 17 points and 8 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). Even a double-double of 29 points and 11 assists by American point guard Mark Lyons (185-89, college: Arizona) did not help to save the game for Maccabi Rishon. His fellow American import power forward Darryl Monroe (201-86, college: George Mason) added 28 points and 6 rebounds. Five Maccabi T-A and four Maccabi Rishon players scored in double figures. Maccabi T-A maintains second position with 13-5 record behind leader Hapoel J-M. Loser Maccabi Rishon keeps the fourth place with eight games lost. Maccabi T-A will meet Maccabi Haifa (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Maccabi Rishon will play against Ironi Nes-Ziona and hope to secure a win.
