Regular Season Round 18: Al Jaysh - Al Sadd 70-78
Date: January 31, 2016
The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Doha: Al Sadd (#2) and Al Jaysh (#4). Al Jaysh was defeated at home 70-78 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Al Jaysh won third quarter 19-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. American-Italian point guard Anthony Raffa (185-89, college: Co.Carolina) scored 24 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals to lead the charge for the winners and international swingman Khalid Abdi (198-87) chipped in 12 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. Five Al Sadd players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American power forward Vernon Macklin (208-86, college: Florida) with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 13 rebounds and the former international center Mohd Mohamed (204-82) scored 19 points and 8 rebounds. Al Sadd (15-1) have an impressive nine-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader. Al Jaysh at the other side keeps the fourth place with six games lost. Al Sadd's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Doha Al Gharafa.
