No shocking result in a game when third ranked Villa Clara (8-4) beat 7th ranked Pinar (4-8) in Santa Clara 67-54 on Tuesday. Villa Clara had a 17-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for guard Neslier Abreu (187-93) who led the winners and scored 16 points. The former international swingman Andy Boffil (190-82) accounted for 18 points and 4 assists for the winning side. Jaciel Martinez (190-91) came up with 15 points and 7 steals and Diagman Vazquez (192-87) added 11 points and 4 steals respectively for Pinar in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Villa Clara. They maintain third place with 8-4 record having just one point less than leader Capitalinos. Loser Pinar keeps the seventh position with eight games lost. Villa Clara will again meet at home Pinar (#7) in the next round. Pinar will have a break next round.
