The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Capitalinos as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Capitalinos edged 8th ranked Santiago in La Habana 83-80. They outrebounded Santiago 34-23 including 23 on the defensive glass. Neysser Coutin (-96) orchestrated the victory by scoring 17 points and 4 steals. Power forward Arlen Alorda (198-86) contributed with 16 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) for the winners. Capitalinos' coach Rainel Panfet used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. Eddy Hechevarria (193-86) answered with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 12 rebounds and international forward Esteban Martinez (192-87) added 22 points in the effort for Santiago. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Ciego de Avila. Santiago lost fifth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with eight games lost. Santiago will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. Capitalinos will try to continue on its current victory against eighth ranked Santiago at home.
