Regular Season Round 18: 36ers - Breakers 84-106
Date: February 3, 2016
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Findon where one of their biggest challengers Adelaide 36ers (14-12) were outplayed by fifth ranked New Zealand Breakers (14-12) 106-84 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by New Zealand Breakers. Adelaide 36ers was better in fourth quarter 28-27. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. New Zealand Breakers looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Adelaide 36ers were plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American guard Cedric Jackson (191-86, college: Cleveland St.) who had a double-double by scoring 31 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists. New Zealand guard Corey Webster (188-88, college: Lambuth, agency: Beo Basket) chipped in 28 points. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international power forward Anthony Petrie (203-83) who recorded 13 points and 9 rebounds and international guard Adam Gibson (188-86) added 14 points and 7 assists respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. New Zealand Breakers have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion moved-up to fourth place, which they share with 36ers. New Zealand Breakers will face league's leader United in Melbourne in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Adelaide 36ers will play on the road against the league's second-placed Perth Wildcats and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
