Regular Season Round 20: Cocodrilos - Marinos 86-71

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Marinos (11-5) in Caracas on Thursday night. Visitors were defeated by fourth ranked Cocodrilos (10-6) 86-71. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by Cocodrilos. Marinos managed to win third quarter 19-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. American guard Carl Elliott (193-83, college: G.Washington) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 assists. Forward Yochuar Palacios (196-85) contributed with 16 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Puerto Rican point guard Filiberto Rivera (190-82, college: UTEP) replied with 19 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and the former international swingman Jose Vargas (195-82, agency: Pro Sports) added 17 points in the effort for Marinos. Five Cocodrilos and four Marinos players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Cocodrilos moved-up to second place. Defending champion Marinos still keep top position with five games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
