Regular Season Round 16: Kutaisi - MIA Academy 83-85

Important game to mention about took place in Kutaisi. Eighth ranked MIA (3-12) saved a 2-point victory on the road edging much higher ranked Kutaisi (10-6) 85-83 on Friday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the home team. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Kutaisi. The guests were tied after three quarters but managed to speed up in last quarter eventually winning the game. MIA made 20-of-26 charity shots (76.9 percent) during the game. Kutaisi was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard Jay-R Strowbridge (183-88, college: Oregon) who helped to win the game recording 20 points and 6 assists and the former international Merab Bokolishvili (196-92) who added 19 points and 4 assists during the contest. Strowbridge is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four MIA players scored in double figures. At the losing side the former international Beka Bekauri (207-91) responded with 20 points and 8 rebounds and Azerbaijani guard Zaur Pashaev (188-83) scored 17 points and 5 assists. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Defending champion maintains eighth position with 3-12 record. Kutaisi at the other side keeps the second place with six games lost. They share the position with Dinamo Tbilisi. MIA's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Tbilisi Olimpi.
