Regular Season Round 18: Pogon RS - AZS PS Gliwice 79-72

There was an upset in Ruda Slaska where higher ranked AZS PS Gliwice (11-7) was defeated by eighth ranked Pogon RS (9-9) 79-72 on Saturday. Pogon RS outrebounded AZS PS Gliwice 46-33 including 33 on the defensive glass. AZS PS Gliwice was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was center Tomasz Stankala (202-91) who had a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds. Forward Aleksander Maslanka (195-91) chipped in a double-double by scoring 10 points and 11 rebounds. Five Pogon RS players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was point guard Krzysztof Wasowicz (183-94) who recorded 28 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists (perfect from downtown making all five shots) and guard Maciej Wasowicz (182-92) added 10 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Pogon RS moved-up to sixth place in Group C, which they share with AZS PCz. Newly promoted AZS PS Gliwice keeps the fourth position with seven games lost. Pogon RS will face AZS AWF M. II (#11) in Katowice in the next round where they are favorite. AZS PS Gliwice will play on the road against Wisla Krakow (#10) and hope to win that game.
