Regular Season Round 22: Liepaja/Triobet - Barons Riga 94-87

Very predictable result when third ranked Liepaja/Triobet (16-7) defeated at home 8th ranked Barons Riga (6-16) 94-87. It looked good early as Barons Riga took a 2-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Liepaja/Triobet had a 27-19 second period charge getting the lead and Barons Riga was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 87-94. Liepaja/Triobet made 24-of-30 charity shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Liepaja/Triobet outrebounded Barons Riga 45-32 including 30 on the defensive glass. Barons Riga was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. American point guard David Hicks (183-88, college: LIU Brooklyn) notched a double-double by scoring 10 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists (made all of his eight free throws) to lead the effort and Arnolds Helmanis (201-92) supported him with 20 points and 5 rebounds. Even a double-double of 22 points, 16 rebounds and 6 assists by guard Kristaps Dargais (198-90) did not help to save the game for Barons Riga. Canadian-Jamaican guard Jason Calliste (188-90, college: Oregon) added 19 points and 6 rebounds for lost side. Five Liepaja/Triobet and four Barons Riga players scored in double figures. Liepaja/Triobet maintains third position with 16-7 record despite having the same number of points like the leader Ventspils. Barons Riga at the other side dropped to the ninth place with 16 games lost. Liepaja/Triobet will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.
