Regular Season Round 19: HyPo - Honka 80-76

No shocking result in a game when third ranked HyPo (11-6) beat 5th ranked Tapiolan Honka (10-9) in Hyvinkaa 80-76. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Tapiolan Honka won third quarter 21-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Tapiolan Honka 48-32 including a 35-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. HyPo players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. They brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. It was a great evening for the former international swingman Henna Salomaa (177-89, college: Oakland) who led her team to a victory scoring 20 points and 6 rebounds. American guard Bria Goss (178-92, college: Kentucky, agency: Merit Management Group) helped adding 14 points and 8 assists. HyPo's coach Tero Niskanen allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. At the losing side international forward Dionne Pounds (174-84, college: Lamar, agency: Regeneracom Sports) responded with 27 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals (made all of her seven free throws) and international swingman Heta Korpivaara (185-84, college: Seton Hall, agency: Regeneracom Sports) scored 17 points and 5 rebounds (made all of her seven free throws). HyPo maintains third place with 11-6 record having eleven points less than leader Catz. Tapiolan Honka at the other side dropped to the fourth position with nine games lost. HyPo will play against Aanekosken (#6) in Aanekoski in the next round. Tapiolan Honka will play on the road against Forssan Alku and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
