Regular Season Round 18: Salerno - Empoli 70-49

Date: February 6, 2016
There was a surprise result when fourteenth ranked Salerno (4-14) smashed at home higher ranked Empoli (9-9) 70-49 on Saturday. It was a very close game until the last quarter, when Salerno's pressure prevailed and they won that period 29-15 extending their advantage to 21 points. The best player for the winners was forward Lucrezia Costa (182-97) who had a double-double by scoring 17 points and 16 rebounds. Francesca Russo (178-96) chipped in 27 points. At the other side the best for losing team was Czech center Klara Pochobradska (186-89) who recorded 9 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and guard Nadia Calamai (172-86) added 15 points respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Salerno moved-up to twelfth place in A2. Newly promoted Empoli dropped to the seventh position with nine games lost. Salerno will face again higher ranked Empoli (#7) at home in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
