The game between closely ranked teams ended with fifth ranked Swords Thunder's (8-6) home victory over 6th ranked Belfast Star (6-7) 92-75. Swords Thunder dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Belfast Star's 36. Swords Thunder forced 19 Belfast Star turnovers and outrebounded them 44-22 including a 29-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Swords Thunder players were unselfish on offense dishing 28 assists. American guard Mike Garrow (193-91, college: E.Connecticut) orchestrated the victory by scoring 23 points and 5 rebounds. The other American import forward Dan Nelms (206, college: Davidson) contributed with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) for the winners. Four Swords Thunder players scored in double figures. American guard Shawn Vanzant (185-88, college: Butler) replied with 28 points and 9 assists and guard Paddy McGaharan (188-89) added 20 points in the effort for Belfast Star. Swords Thunder moved-up to fourth place, which they share with UCD Marian. Belfast Star at the other side keeps the sixth position with seven games lost. Swords Thunder will play against DCU Saints (#8) in Dublin in the next round. Belfast Star will play at home against the league's second-placed Templeogue and hopes to get back on the winning track.
