Ninth-ranked Cortegada (6-11) was very close to win a game against seventh ranked C.Adelantados (10-7) in San Cristobal on Saturday. C.Adelantados managed to secure only three-point victory 72-69. However their fans expected easier game. The hosts trailed by 3 points at the halftime before their 38-32 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. C.Adelantados outrebounded Cortegada 46-27 including a 21-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. American guard Tyonna Outland (173-92, college: CSU Bakersfield) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 29 points and 14 rebounds. Her fellow American import swingman Robin Murphy (185-88, college: S.Mississippi) contributed with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Senegalese center Amy Syll (196-93) answered with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds and guard Sara Gomez (172-86, agency: Josep and Nicolas) added 16 points in the effort for Cortegada. Four Cortegada players scored in double figures. C.Adelantados moved-up to fifth place in Group A, which they share with Ensino and Aros Leon. Loser Cortegada keeps the ninth position with 11 games lost. C.Adelantados will face ADBA (#14) in Aviles in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Cortegada will play on the road against Aros Leon (#5) and hope to win that game.
