Regular Season Round 17: Medacbasket - Velez 74-67

Date: February 6, 2016
Not a big story in a game when 5th ranked Velez (5-8) lost to second ranked Medacbasket (10-3) in Malaag 67-74 on Saturday. Velez trailed by 14 points after 3 quarters before a 23-16 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 67-74 at the end of the game. Velez was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. American forward Alex Jackson (200-84, college: Mo.-St.Louis) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Guard Germinal Cabrita (187-86) contributed with 10 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Jackson is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Medacbasket's coach Javier Imbroda allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Forward Ismael Sanchez (193-83) answered with 25 points and 6 rebounds and Ruben Lopez (193-76) added 16 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Velez. Medacbasket keeps a position of Group D-East leader. Velez lost their third game in a row. Velez at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the fifth place with eight games lost. Medacbasket will face Andujar (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Velez will play against Cordoba and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
