Regular Season Round 20: Spirou - Mons-Hainaut 81-78
Date: February 6, 2016
Important game to mention about took place in Charleroi. Second ranked Spirou Charleroi (10-5) saved a 3-point victory at home edging 8th ranked Belfius Mons-Hainaut (7-8) 81-78 on Saturday evening. Host team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Belfius Mons-Hainaut. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 19-10. But Belfius Mons-Hainaut won third quarter 21-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The winners were led by American point guard Billy Baron (188-90, college: Canisius, agency: Octagon Europe) who scored that evening 27 points (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) and the other American import Seamus Boxley (201-82, college: Portland St.) supported him with 11 points. Spirou Charleroi's coach Jacques Stas allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Even 19 points and 8 rebounds by the former international center Amaury Gorgemans (212-92) did not help to save the game for Belfius Mons-Hainaut. American-Bulgarian point guard Andre Collins (183-82, college: Loyola, MD) added 23 points for the guests. Spirou Charleroi maintains second position with 10-5 record having six points less than leader Oostende. Belfius Mons-Hainaut at the other side keeps the eighth place with eight games lost. Spirou Charleroi will play against Antwerp Giants (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Belfius Mons-Hainaut will play against VOO Verviers-Pepinster (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
