Regular Season Round 19: Cholet - ASVEL 86-82

There was an upset when higher ranked ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket (12-7) was defeated on the road by fourteenth ranked Cholet Basket (8-11) 86-82 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 7-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 86-82. Strangely ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket outrebounded Cholet Basket 39-26 including a 31-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great evening for American-Puerto Rican point guard TreVon Hughes (183-87, college: Wisconsin) who led his team to a victory scoring 19 points. American point guard DaShaun Wood (185-85, college: Wright St., agency: Inception Sports) helped adding 17 points and 4 assists. At the losing side Australian center David Andersen (213-80) responded with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds and American guard Trenton Meacham (190-85, college: Illinois) scored 13 points and 8 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Cholet Basket. They moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with Orleans. ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the sixth position with seven games lost. Cholet Basket will face higher ranked Olympique Antibes (#10) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
