Regular Season Round 16: Kvarner 2010 - KK Split 91-93 OT

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Kvarner (12-2) in Rijeka on Saturday night. Hosts were edged by fourth ranked KK Split (10-5) in overtime 93-91. It ended at the same time the eight-game winning streak of Kvarner. Kvarner was trailing by 6 points at halftime but managed to get 6-point lead after three quarters before a 21-15 charge of KK Split, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time. They were better in overtime eventually winning that period 16-14. KK Split made 26-of-34 free shots (76.5 percent) during the game. 28 personal fouls committed by Kvarner helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of power forward Josip Jukic (207-96) who helped to win the game recording 24 points and 6 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). The former international guard Srdan Subotic (194-80) contributed with 24 points and 4 assists for the winners. Point guard Mauro Veljacic (183-93) replied with 29 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Petar Maric (196-87, agency: PEPI SPORT) added 20 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Kvarner. Four KK Split and five Kvarner players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. KK Split maintains fourth position with 10-5 record. Kvarner at the other side dropped to the second place with two games lost. KK Split are looking forward to face higher ranked GKK Sibenik (#3) at home in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Kvarner will play against the league's leader KK Zagreb and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
