Regular Season Round 17: Sleza Wroclaw - AZS UMCS 80-79

Sixth-ranked AZS UMCS (9-8) gave a tough game to third ranked Sleza Wroclaw (13-4) on Saturday. Sleza Wroclaw managed to secure only one-point victory 80-79. However their fans expected easier game. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of AZS UMCS. They outrebounded AZS UMCS 41-23 including 26 on the defensive glass. Sleza Wroclaw looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Guard Agnieszka Sniezek (176-91) stepped up and scored 25 points for the winners and American point guard Sharnee Zoll-Norman (170-86, college: Virginia) chipped in 11 points, 8 rebounds and 10 assists. Sleza Wroclaw's coach Algirdas Paulauskas used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American guard Jhasmin Player (178-87, college: Baylor, agency: Merit Management Group) responded with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import guard Leah Metcalf (170-83, college: N.Carolina) scored 23 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Sleza Wroclaw have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain third place with 13-4 record having just two points less than leader Wisla Krakow, which they share with Polkowice. AZS UMCS at the other side keeps the sixth position with eight games lost. Sleza Wroclaw is looking forward to face league's second-placed Artego Bydg. in Bydgoszcz in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. AZS UMCS will play at home against Energa Torun (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
