Regular Season Round 20: Al Arabi - Al Shamal 61-74

The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Doha: Al Shamal (#7) and Al Arabi (#8). Al Arabi was defeated at home 61-74 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. American swingman Mildon Ambres (198-84, college: S.Nazarene) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 12 rebounds. Faris Avdic contributed with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Four Al Shamal players scored in double figures. American center Todd O'Brien (211-89, college: UAB) replied with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 21 rebounds and his fellow American import point guard Temi Soyebo (183-84, college: NC-Wilmington) added 26 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals in the effort for Al Arabi. Al Shamal (7-10) moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Al Wakrah and Al Khor. Al Arabi at the other side keeps the eighth position with 13 games lost. Al Shamal is looking forward to face Al Khor (#7) at home in the next round. Al Arabi will play against Al Wakrah and is hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.
