Eighth-ranked MIA (3-14) gave a tough game to sixth ranked Olimpi (8-9) in Tbilisi on Tuesday. The visitors managed to secure only two-point victory 76-74. However their fans expected easier game. MIA was trailing by 3 points at halftime but managed to get 7-point lead after three quarters before a 29-20 charge of Olimpi, which allowed them to win the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Olimpi made 10 blocks. The best player for the winners was British V.Islands forward Leslie Smith (203-91, college: Nebraska) who had a double-double by scoring 18 points, 12 rebounds and 6 blocks. American guard Jeremy Bynum (193-88, college: Jacksonville St.) chipped in 18 points and 6 rebounds. Bynum is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Olimpi players scored in double figures. Olimpi's coach Leonid Ivatin used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American forward Maurice Lewis-Briggs (203-90, college: Slippery Rock, agency: Mansfield and Associates) produced a double-double by scoring 18 points and 17 rebounds and the other American import point guard Jay-R Strowbridge (183-88, college: Oregon) added 22 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for the hosts. Olimpi maintains sixth place with 8-9 record. Defending champion MIA stay at the bottom position with 14 games lost. Olimpi's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Tbilisi Mgzavrebi.
