A very close game took place in La Plata between Gimnasia LP and Olimpo. Sixth ranked Gimnasia LP (12-14) got a very close home victory over 3rd ranked Olimpo (13-12). Gimnasia LP managed to escape with a 1-point win 70-69 on Thursday evening. The winners were led by power forward Lisandro Villa (198-87) who scored that evening 19 points and 8 rebounds and forward Maximiliano Segon (200-91) supported him with 19 points and 6 rebounds. Even a double-double of 24 points and 14 rebounds by American-Venezuelan Clarence Matthews (201-83, college: Tennessee St.) did not help to save the game for Olimpo. Naturalized Italian point guard Mariano Castets (183-83) added 16 points. Newly promoted Gimnasia LP maintains sixth position with 12-14 record. Olimpo at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the third place with 12 games lost. They share the position with Parque Sur. Gimnasia LP will meet higher ranked Huracan (#5) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Olimpo will play against the league's leader CA Platense in Florida and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
