Regular Season Round 9: Byblos - Al Riyadi 75-66

The most surprising game was the first loss of undefeated Al Riyadi (7-1) on the court of fifth ranked Byblos on Friday night. Visitors were defeated by Byblos 75-66. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Al Riyadi. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 23-13. But Al Riyadi won second period 20-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Strangely Al Riyadi outrebounded Byblos 40-26 including a 18-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a good game for American-Ukrainian guard Steven Burtt (189-84, college: Iona) who led his team to a victory with 19 points and 5 assists. Naturalized American point guard Ali Barada (186-88, college: Northwood) contributed with 19 points and 4 assists for the winners. The former international swingman Jean Abdel Nour (198-83) answered with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 15 rebounds and American Aaron Harper (203-81, college: Mississippi) added 17 points in the effort for Al Riyadi. Byblos have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Moutahed. Defending champion Al Riyadi still keeps top position with one game lost. Byblos is looking forward to face Louaize (#8) in the next round. Al Riyadi will have a break next round.
