Regular Season Round 18: Alcobendas - Segle XXI 73-70

Twelfth-ranked Segle XXI (4-14) gave a tough game to first ranked Alcobendas (16-2) on Saturday. Alcobendas managed to secure only three-point victory 73-70. However their fans expected much easier game. Segle XXI trailed by 15 points after 3 quarters before a 25-13 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 70-73 at the end of the game. Center Sara Rodriguez (184-93) scored 19 points and 8 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and center Aitana Cuevas (187-86) chipped in 17 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. Four Alcobendas players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was forward Paula Ginzo (187-98) with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists and Irene Medel (168-99) scored 8 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Alcobendas have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain first position in Group B with 16-2 record. Segle XXI lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the twelfth place with 14 games lost. Alcobendas are looking forward to face Plenilunio (#6) in Madrid in the next round where they are favorite. Segle XXI will play at home against the league's second-placed Rivas Promete (#2) and is hoping to prove to their fans that they can break losing series.
