Regular Season Round 21: Al Ahli - Al Jaysh 71-98

Date: February 13, 2016
Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Doha: Al Jaysh (#4) and Al Ahli (#10). Al Ahli was crushed at home by 27 points 71-98 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. The game was mostly controlled by Al Jaysh. Al Ahli was better in second period 21-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Al Jaysh dominated down low during the game scoring 76 of its points in the paint compared to Al Ahli's 46. Al Jaysh forced 24 Al Ahli turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 36 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Al Ahli's players. It was a good game for American forward Sammy Monroe (198-85, college: Newberry) who led his team to a victory with 30 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists (on 13-of-17 shooting from the field). His fellow American import power forward Vernon Macklin (208-86, college: Florida) contributed with 25 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Monroe is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Four Al Jaysh players scored in double figures. Al Jaysh's coach Dragoslav Milovanovic felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American guard Terrence Joyner (190-88, college: Miss.Valley St.) answered with 26 points and 7 rebounds and Ndoye Elhadj added 20 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Al Ahli. Al Jaysh maintains fourth place with 11-7 record. Al Ahli lost their eleventh game in a row. They stay dead last with 17 lost games.
