Regular Season Round 19: Gran Canaria - Cadi La Seu 70-79
Date: February 13, 2016
Very predictable result in Las Palmas where fifth ranked Cadi La Seu (12-7) defeated 11th ranked Gran Canaria (6-13) 79-70 on Saturday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Gran Canaria won third quarter 23-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a great evening for the former international forward Tamara Abalde (190-89, agency: Josep and Nicolas) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 15 rebounds. International center Laura Gil (190-92, agency: Regeneracom Sports) helped adding 15 points and 7 rebounds. Four Cadi La Seu players scored in double figures. At the losing side American guard Taysha Pye (175-89, college: William & Mary) responded with a triple-double by scoring 10 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists and forward Estela Royo (178-86) scored 22 points and 5 rebounds. Gran Canaria's coach Domingo Diaz rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the third consecutive win for Cadi La Seu. They maintain fifth place with 12-7 record. Loser Gran Canaria dropped to the twelfth position with 13 games lost. Cadi La Seu will face higher ranked Mann Filter (#3) in Zaragoza in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Gran Canaria will play on the road against Campus Promete (#12) in Logrono and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
