Regular Season Round 25: San Giovanni - Lucca 71-74

Twelfth-ranked San Giovanni (5-18) gave a tough game to first ranked Lucca (22-1) in Sesto San Giovanni on Saturday. The visitors from Lucca managed to secure only three-point victory 74-71. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Lucca forced 20 San Giovanni turnovers and had a 17-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. American-New Zealand guard Jillian Harmon (185-87, college: Stanford, agency: Players Group) stepped up and scored 25 points and 7 rebounds for the winners and international point guard Francesca Dotto (170-93, agency: LBM Management) chipped in 11 points and 8 rebounds. At the losing side American guard Antiesha Brown (178-92, college: N.Mexico) responded with 16 points and 5 rebounds and Romanian forward Simina Mandache (185-81) scored 15 points and 6 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Lucca have an impressive series of twelve victories in a row. They maintain first place with 22-1 record. San Giovanni lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the thirteenth position with 18 games lost. Lucca are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Cagliari CUS (#14) at home in the next round which should be an easy win for them. San Giovanni will play against Napoli and is hoping to prove to their supporters that they can break losing series.
