The most exciting game of round 17 in the WNBL took place in Sydney. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 6th ranked Sydney Uni Flames (12-11) to third ranked Perth Lynx (15-8) 88-85 on Saturday evening. The guests trailed by 9 points after first quarter, but they rallied back winning next two quarters and won the game by 3 points. The best player for the winners was American forward Betnijah Laney (183-93, college: Rutgers, agency: LBM Management) who scored 18 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists. Her fellow American import swingman Samantha Whitcomb (178-88, college: Washington) chipped in 24 points and 7 rebounds. International guard Katie-Rae Ebzery (177-90) produced 23 points and forward Carly Boag (188-95, college: Minot St.) added 14 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Five Sydney Uni Flames players scored in double figures. Perth Lynx moved-up to second place, which they share with Dandenong. Sydney Uni Flames lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with 11 games lost. Perth Lynx is looking forward to face league's leader Townsville Fire at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Sydney Uni Flames will play against Bendigo Spirit (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
