The game had a very big importance for third-ranked Capitalinos as it allowed them to take a leadership position after previous leader's (Villa Clara) loss. Capitalinos defeated 5th ranked Pinar in La Habana 68-57. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Pinar. Capitalinos forced 22 Pinar turnovers. It was a good game for power forward Arlen Alorda (198-86) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). The former international power forward Eliezer Lima (202-75) contributed with 12 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Capitalinos' coach Rainel Panfet allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Jaciel Martinez (190-91) replied with 22 points and 4 steals and forward Yanderlei Suarez (193-91) added 8 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Pinar. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Villa Clara. Pinar at the other side keeps the fifth place with nine games lost. Pinar will play next round against strong Ciego trying to get back on the winning streak. Capitalinos will try to continue on its current victory against seventh ranked Los Toros at Artemisa.
