Regular Season Round 17: MIA Academy - Sokhumi 74-89

Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Tbilisi: Sokhumi (#5) and MIA (#8). MIA was defeated at home 74-89 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. The game without a history. Sokhumi led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. American point guard Phillip Miller (185-91, college: Wiley) orchestrated the victory by scoring 22 points and 7 rebounds. Center Sergo Atuashvili (223-85) contributed with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. American center Chris Pelcher (208-91, college: New Hampshire) answered with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 14 rebounds and the other American import point guard Jay-R Strowbridge (183-88, college: Oregon) added 19 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for MIA. Five Sokhumi and four MIA players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Sokhumi (9-8) moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Mgzavrebi. Defending champion MIA stay at the bottom position with 14 games lost. Sokhumi's next round opponent will be higher ranked Kutaisi (#3) at home and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. MIA's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Tbilisi Dinamo Tbilisi.
