Regular Season Round 17: Bendigo - Adelaide 78-92

Date: February 14, 2016
There was a small surprise when seventh ranked Adelaide Lightning (10-13) defeated on the road 5th ranked Bendigo Spirit (12-10) 92-78. The game was mostly controlled by Adelaide Lightning. Bendigo Spirit was better in fourth quarter 23-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The former international point guard Leilani Mitchell (165-85, college: Utah, agency: LBM Management) nailed 35 points (!!!) and 6 assists for the winning side and American forward Mikaela Ruef (190-90, college: Stanford) accounted for 12 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists. The former international Belinda Snell (180-81) came up with 19 points and 6 rebounds and guard Heather Oliver (178-87, college: USC) added 17 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Bendigo Spirit in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Adelaide Lightning maintains seventh place with 10-13 record. Bendigo Spirit lost their third game in a row. They keep the fifth position with ten games lost. Adelaide Lightning's next round opponent will be league's leader Townsville Fire at home and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Bendigo Spirit will play against Canberra Capitals (#9) and hope to win that game.
